Emerging Standards Program

The Open Wearables Initiative (OWEAR) has established this Emerging Standards Program to help identify and support open-source algorithms that are being adopted rapidly and may become de facto industry standards. This OWEAR program uses the number and quality of references to crowdsource the identification of potential emerging standards. OWEAR has created and will maintain this Airtable that displays key information about the studies in which the algorithm has been employed, including the therapeutic area, population(s) studied, and number of participants. If you are a part of any studies that should be added to this airtable, please get in contact with us.

GGIR, a popular package for transforming wrist-worn acceleration data into activity and sleep metrics, is the first open-source package recognized under this program. The GGIR Airtable below displays more than 300 references to studies using GGIR, and includes important information like therapeutic area, cohorts studied, and number of participants. If you are aware of other open-source algorithm packages that should be recognized under this new program, please get in contact with us.

This Airtable was created based on a reference list and will be maintained by Shimmer Research. Inc., which is contributing efforts free of charge to support OWEAR in this program.
